Labiaplasty

What Is Labiaplasty?

Aging, genetics, and childbirth can affect the appearance of a woman’s vagina. Women often choose to reverse changes to their labia through a plastic surgery procedure called labiaplasty. This surgery focuses on restoring a more natural appearance to the labia by reducing length, thickness, discoloration, and asymmetry.

Women get labiaplasty due to a number of reasons. The look of the labia can cause embarrassment and self-consciousness in intimate situations. Labia that are elongated, enlarged, or asymmetrical can also cause physical discomfort while wearing certain clothing or performing physical activities like exercise and sexual intercourse.

How Is It Performed?

LabiaplastyBefore the date of your labiaplasty, you’ll meet with Dr. Chris Park or Dr. Ryan Rebowe for a consultation. The doctor will listen to your concerns regarding your vagina, give their honest input, and then plan out the procedure to help you get the results you deserve. Make sure to be straightforward and honest about your expectations.

Your medical history will be evaluated, including allergies, health conditions, and relevant past surgical treatments. The doctor will conduct a physical exam. The surgical plan will be thoroughly explained, and vital details will be discussed, such as various fees, preparation, the procedure, and the recovery period.

You are encouraged to ask questions at any point during the consultation. Once the schedule for your labiaplasty is set, you will be provided with preparatory instructions, including the necessary arrangements you will need to make for your surgery and recovery.

Labiaplasty is a very safe procedure and can take one to two hours. After anesthesia is given to make sure you’re comfortable, very small incisions will be made in specific locations. Your doctor will perform labiaplasty using the technique that best fits your needs and goals.

The most common option is the trim technique, where the doctor trims the edges of the labia. Another popular option is the wedge technique, where a wedge of tissue is removed and the tissues around it are reconnected. Fine stitches are then used to close the incision.

Are You a Good Candidate?

Ideally, any woman who is well into her adulthood can choose to undergo labiaplasty. If you want to rejuvenate your labia, are in overall good health, and have realistic expectations, you may be an ideal candidate. Women who are not satisfied with the aesthetics of their vagina are often excellent candidates for labiaplasty.

Labiaplasty is usually done in situations where the inner labia extend much farther than the outer layer. If you’ve recently given birth, chances are that your labia minora have experienced tears, which can be fixed with labiaplasty. The effects of aging on the labia can also be made inconspicuous through this surgery.

Labiaplasty is appropriate for women who can take a leave of absence from their work. Candidates must be prepared to avoid certain activities during their recovery period, including sexual activities, sports, and heavy exercise.

After Your Labiaplasty

Your surgeon will guide you on the best ways to recover and heal after labiaplasty. Follow their directions as closely as possible for a more comfortable recovery. Basic instructions for recovery include regularly cleaning the incision area, wearing loose underwear, and avoiding sexual intercourse and other physical activities.

You will experience a minor degree of bruising and swelling. Prescriptions and recovery instructions will be provided for a safe and smooth recovery process. You will need assistance for the first couple days of recovery.

In most cases, physical activities will be allowed after three weeks. However, sexual activities will only be allowed after around six weeks of recovery. It will take at least three months before you will be able to see the full results of your labiaplasty surgery.

How Much Does Labiaplasty Cost?

The price of labiaplasty differs from person to person. Cost depends on factors like the total surgical time needed, the exact techniques used, and the type of anesthesia used. We also offer financing through CareCredit to help patients with the cost of our procedures.
